One thing that has been argued about since stink bugs invaded North America is whether or not stink bugs can bite people. There are many researchers and bug experts that claim that stink bugs cannot bite people, but several individuals are claiming that they have been bitten by these bugs. This is fueling many people to fear the bug and is making more people want to know how to get rid of stink bugs so they are not at risk of being bitten.

Researchers claim that stink bugs cannot bite people because they do not have a mouth that is able to bite. While this is true, stink bugs do not have a mouth but that doesn’t necessarily mean that stink bugs cannot bite or stink. This is because stink bugs have a needle like appendage that they use to pierce plants and other insects to get substance from. So can this needle appendage be used to pierce human skin and cause injury?

Thanks to the recent explosion of stink bugs in Pittsburgh and other places, there have been countless cases of people claiming to be bit by stink bugs. Many researchers claim these cases are simply misidentification of the stink bug, where people think they were bit by a stink bug when in fact they were actually bitten by anther similar looking insect. However, these cities have been nearly overrun by stink bugs making it very unlikely that anyone would not know what the stink bug looks like. Some of these people who have been bitten by these stink bugs have counted thousands of stink bugs that they’ve themselves killed in and around their home, so it’s very unlikely that they would not be able to recognize one of these bugs.

After looking at all the research and evidence this author feels very certain that stink bugs are able to bite or pierce human skin with their needle like appendage used for feeding.
